EVENTS

At Purushottam Public Trust, we strongly believe that the accessibility of art is a gauge of freedom in a society. The Trust therefore seeks to encourage artistic exploration and endeavour through its primary initiatives. To this effect, we undertake and organize activities that help inform, educate, inspire both young artists and the public at large.

Working to support and promote high quality education and endeavors in the field of printmaking, the Trust has an annual calendar of events guided by our aims and objectives as an organization. With Purushottam Public Trust itself being seeded in an event, our emphasis remains on offering platforms and opportunities to artists, as well as creating mutually nurturing interfaces between artists and the public, through our events. These also offer a chance at pushing the boundaries of artistic endeavour through high quality

education of artists in technical and nontechnical aspects of the discipline of Print Making.

Bringing together a rich pool of knowledge, experience and insight, these events are curated in collaboration with eminent artists, like minded organizations and bodies, and prominent galleries and institutions. Our events largely take form as exhibitions and shows, lectures, seminars and workshops, including exhibitions and shows for promising students and young artists, such as under the aegis of the Purushottam Annual Merit Award. Through these we hope to contribute to the discipline of Printmaking and the opportunities at hand.

If you would like to contribute or collaborate with us in our efforts, kindly contact us directly to discuss the possibilities further.

SOLO EXHIBITION OF WORKS BY ROKESH PATIL 2024: The Purushottam Annual Merit Awardee

The Gallery, Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Vadodara

Awarded the Purushottam Annual Merit Award 2022, Rokesh Patil showcased his work at The Gallery, Faculty of Fine Arts, Vadodara from the 05th to the 9th of September, 2024. The exhibition was inaugurated in conjunction with the Award Ceremony for the new year.

Rokesh Patil, a native of the coastal village of Arnala Island, Maharashtra, draws inspiration from his deep-rooted connection to the sea. His artistic journey, marked by a Bachelor's degree in Painting and a PDVA in Printmaking, has been significantly influenced by his maritime surroundings.

Patil's work often centers around the sea, its inhabitants, and the intricate processes that occur beneath the surface. His sculptures, paintings, and prints frequently incorporate elements like fish, boats, waves, and the water itself. His recent series of miniature boats, submerged in deep sea waters for months, explores the transformative effects of the marine environment on objects.

Patil's exploration of the sea extends beyond its visual aspects. He delves into the cultural and historical significance of the ocean, drawing from his experiences as a member of the Koli fishing community. His work often reflects the unique perspectives and traditions associated with coastal living.

In addition to his sculptural practice, Patil has also experimented with printmaking techniques, particularly drypoint. His mastery of this medium allows him to create intricate line drawings and add depth to his compositions. Whether working with sculpture or printmaking, Patil's artistic vision remains firmly rooted in his love for the sea and his desire to capture its essence.
